7 Simple Ways to Help You Achieve Work-Life Harmony
Updated: Jan 14
Work-life balance sounds like an interesting topic for a TED Talk. But it isn’t a concept we can easily apply in real life. With endless deadlines, errands, and various responsibilities, it becomes hard to balance our personal and professional life.
So how can you achieve work-life harmony? Let’s discuss…
7 Ways to Achieve Work-Life Harmony
Below are 7 simple yet effective ways in which you can achieve work-life balance.
1. Start Planning Your Week
Buy one of those weekly calendars and start planning everything you have to do in a week. It’ll allow you to prioritize your tasks and cut down on things that are non-essential. You can organize your day by assigning time blocks for work, family, exercise, and even sleep.
2. Start Exercising
If you take one hour of your day to exercise, you spend that time taking care of your physical and mental health. Even a small 30 min walk gives you time to clear your mind, detach from work, and reduce stress.
3. Find New Hobbies
The worst part of a bad work-life balance is that you won’t be able to stop thinking about deadlines even during non-work hours. If that’s the case, a new hobby will help you distract yourself from the everyday routine. It’ll also make you feel much more happy and relaxed.
4. Learn to Disconnect
If you have ever checked your work emails or slack messages from your phone while lying in bed, then you’re not alone. While it's good to stay connected with the world, continuously checking your notifications can negatively affect your work-life harmony.
So while trying to spend quality time at your home, unplug and step away from your phones for a while. Try to stay present in the moment!
5. Separate Your Personal & Workplace
While working from home, many of us end up curled on the couch with our laptop and television on for the entire day. This can reduce your productivity and leave you emotionally exhausted.
Try to avoid such working conditions by assigning a room or place for your work that’s separate from the place where you eat and rest.
6. Go for a Wellness Retreat
Taking a vacation is often the first thing that comes to mind when we think about taking a break. But instead of a normal vacation, go on a wellness retreat. These are health-focused vacations that give you time to reconnect with yourself through various physical, psychological, and spiritual activities.

7. Take Small Steps
Last but the most important thing is to take small steps. If you try to change your daily routine overnight, it will get overwhelming and you’ll give up pretty soon. Instead, start with one new thing and stay consistent until it becomes a habit. This way you’ll be able to effectively achieve work-life harmony without compromising any aspect of your life.
Unhealthy work-life balance has become so common that people are actually starting to accept it as the new normal. But you can change the narrative by making small changes in your everyday routine.
